How is padel rating calculated?

Padel ratings vary by system, but most apps and tournaments use a variant of Glicko-2 or Elo. In Glicko-2 (used by Smash.), each player has a rating (e.g., 1500), a rating deviation (RD — confidence interval), and a volatility score. After each match, ratings update based on: (1) result (win/loss), (2) expected result given ratings difference, and (3) current RDs. Beating a highly rated player increases your rating more than beating a lower-rated one. Early matches have higher RD (uncertain rating); established players have lower RD (confident rating). Most casual GCC padel uses self-reported levels (P1–A3) rather than computed ratings — but apps like Smash. use match results to compute a verified Glicko rating over time.
