Third-shot sequence (server's second shot); continuation of serve-and-volley build.
Definition
Serve-plus-2 is the third-shot sequence (the server's second shot after the serve), following serve+1. By serve+2, the server should be advancing the offensive position further—ideally at net or preparing to finish. Serve-plus-2 planning involves anticipating how the rally develops after serve+1: if serve+1 was defensive, serve+2 might be a reset; if serve+1 was offensive, serve+2 is a finish or close-to-net move. Teams that execute serve-plus-2 well control the rally from the start and dictate pace.
Origin: Advanced serve-sequence planning; reflects competitive sophistication.
On key points; plan serve+2 as part of serve strategy.
Beginners skip it. Intermediate+ players benefit from planning 3+ shots ahead.
Adapt serve+2; don't force a pre-planned shot if situation has changed.
