A player who positions primarily at or near the net, focusing on volleys and offensive shots.
Definition
The net player is one of the two players in padel doubles and takes a position at or near the net. The net player's responsibilities include aggressive volleying, cutting off angles, and finishing points. A strong net player is essential to competitive padel because control of the net zone leads to point dominance. Net players must be quick, have excellent reflexes, good anticipation, and solid volley technique. The best net players are often shorter, quicker players who can move rapidly laterally. Modern padel emphasizes aggressive net play with both players trying to control the net.
Quick reflexes, excellent anticipation, good volley technique, lateral speed, and aggressive positioning. Height is less important than these skills.
