Let

What is a Let in padel?

A serve that clips the net but lands correctly; replayed without penalty.

Definition

A let is a serve that touches the net cord but lands correctly in the service box. The point is replayed with no penalty. Unlike tennis (where lets are replayed), padel lets are replayed without affecting the server's score or attempt count.

Origin: English: 'let', from Old Norse 'leta' (to hinder), the ball is hindered but the serve is valid.

When to use it

Occurs naturally in padel; both players accept the replay and continue without dispute.

Common questions

Is a let the same in padel and tennis?

Similar concept but padel replays without penalty. In modern tennis, lets don't stop play (the serve continues).

Can a second serve be a let?

Yes—a let on either first or second serve is replayed as the same serve attempt.
