Chase-and-Corner
What is a Chase-and-Corner in padel?
Aggressive rally escalation; push opponent to sideline/corner, then finish or break rhythm.
Definition
Chase-and-corner is an offensive tactic where one team hits a series of progressively wider shots to push an opponent toward the sideline or corner, then either finishes with an outright winner or breaks rhythm with an unexpected shot. As opponent is pushed wider, their court position weakens and passing-lane angles close. Once cornered, opponent has limited options—a finishing shot works or an unexpected slow shot catches them off-guard. Chase-and-corner works best against defensive opponents who move slowly.
Origin: Aggressive court-control philosophy in modern padel.
When to use it
When you have offensive advantage; systematically corner opponent.
Common questions
What if opponent hits a winner from the corner?
Your risk—chase-and-corner assumes opponent is weaker when cornered. Recalibrate if it backfires.
Can I corner both directions?
Yes—alternate to prevent opponent adaptation.
