Volley Fundamentals — Padel Drills

Master basic volley technique, the most important shot in padel, executed near or at the net with minimal backswing. Beginner volleys focus on quick reflexes, short punching motions, and consistent net placement.

Technique: step by step

1

Ready Position at Net

Position yourself 2-3 feet from the net with feet shoulder-width apart, knees flexed, racket up at chest height.

2

Split-Step Timing

Execute a small hop as your opponent strikes the ball, landing with feet ready to move in any direction.

3

Quick Racket Positioning

Move your racket forward with a short backswing, keeping your wrist firm and elbow at waist level.

4

Punch the Ball

Use a short, punching motion to redirect the incoming ball. Contact the ball in front of your body.

5

Depth Control

Direct volleys deep into the opponent's court (3-4 feet from the baseline) to prevent attackable returns.

6

Aggressive Positioning Maintenance

Stay at net after each volley, maintaining your dominant position.

Coach tip

Stay relaxed at the net; tight muscles slow your reflex. Anticipate the ball path one step ahead of impact.
