Lob Return Defensive Option — Padel Drills
Execute lob returns over aggressive net-rushing servers, pushing them back and creating defensive opportunities. Lob returns disrupt serve-and-volley strategies and reset the point baseline positioning.
Technique: step by step
Serve Reading
Identify when the server is rushing aggressively to net, creating the opportunity for a lob return.
Ready Position Adjustment
Stand with a slightly open stance, prepared to execute an upward swing path toward the sky.
Backswing Lifting Motion
Take a smooth backswing with an upward loop, positioning your racket below the incoming serve.
Contact and Lift
Strike the serve with an upward lifting motion, sending the ball high over the server's head toward the baseline.
Height and Depth Control
Execute the lob return with sufficient height (8-10 feet) and depth (near baseline) to force the server into defensive positioning.
Court Recovery
Return to the baseline ready position, prepared for the server's overhead response or recovery position.
Coach tip
Lob returns are effective against aggressive net rushers; a well-placed lob forces them back and neutralizes their advantage.
