Half-Volley Technique — Padel Drills

Execute the half-volley, a shot struck immediately after the ball bounces near your feet, transitioning from baseline to net position. This recovery shot is crucial for converting defensive positions into offensive opportunities.

Technique: step by step

1

Reading the Bounce

Anticipate when a low ball will bounce near your feet, positioning yourself to intercept it just after the bounce.

2

Quick Setup Footwork

Take small, quick steps to position yourself directly behind and above the bounce point.

3

Low Racket Position

Keep your racket low, slightly below ball height as it bounces, preparing for an upward lifting motion.

4

Lifting Stroke

Execute a short, lifting swing from below the ball, making contact just as it rises off the ground.

5

Depth and Elevation

Direct the half-volley deep into the opponent's court with enough elevation to clear the net safely.

6

Immediate Net Transition

Follow the half-volley immediately to net, converting this defensive recovery into an offensive net position.

Coach tip

Make contact as early as possible after the bounce to limit the opponent's attack time. Smooth, lifting motion creates consistent depth.
