Drop Volley Finesse — Padel Drills
Master the soft, delicate drop volley executed at the net with minimal racket motion. This touch shot lands just over the net within a few feet, creating unreturnable balls when opponents are pushed back.
Technique: step by step
Net Position Setup
Position yourself at the net with knees bent and racket up, preparing for a quick reaction on an incoming ball.
Soft Grip Adjustment
Loosen your grip slightly to allow the racket to absorb the incoming ball's pace gently.
Minimal Backswing
Keep the racket barely moving backward; the incoming ball's pace will do most of the work.
Touch and Angle
Use slight racket face angling and wrist movement to direct the ball downward with topspin, landing just over the net.
Height Control
Execute the drop volley to land between 12-24 inches over the net, forcing the opponent to advance and hit upward.
Aggressive Recovery
Hold your net position aggressively after the drop volley, ready to finish on the opponent's weak response.
Coach tip
The drop volley is about feel and touch, not power. Think of catching the ball rather than hitting it.
