A high ball is a sitter. This guide teaches you to position for smashes, time the impact, and finish decisively.
The smash is padel's easiest point to win. When the ball bounces high (above net height), smash it away. Position yourself under the ball slightly, with feet shoulder-width apart and weight balanced. Your non-dominant shoulder points toward the net. Bring the racket up above your head in an inverted 'V' position, elbows slightly bent. Track the ball with your eyes—don't look away. As the ball falls to peak smash height (slightly in front of your head, between eye level and 6 inches above), accelerate the racket down and through. Snap your wrist for extra pace. Make contact with a flat or slight overspin. The follow-through is a full arm extension downward, finishing at waist height. Many intermediate players miss smashes by moving too early or not waiting for the ball to fall. Stand still, track carefully, and wait for the optimal height. On weak lobs (low-to-medium height), smash at the net.
What if the lob is very high or far back?
Let it bounce if necessary—a bounce smash is easier than hitting a ball above your head. Safety first.
Should I smash every high ball?
Yes, if you can hit it into the court. High balls are the easiest points to win. Don't miss them.
