What is a vibora in padel?
The vibora (Spanish for 'viper') is an aggressive overhead shot in padel played with heavy topspin, creating a kick bounce that accelerates the ball away from the opponent after it hits the glass. Unlike a smash (which aims for pace) or a bandeja (which aims for control), the vibora uses a pronounced wrist snap and brushing motion — the racket sweeps across the ball from low to high at contact, generating topspin and sidespin. The vibora is particularly effective when the ball sits mid-height and there's a glass wall behind the opponents. After a vibora, the ball typically kicks toward the metal fence, making it very difficult to retrieve. It is considered an advanced technique, generally mastered at A1–A2 level.
