A return of serve that lobs high over the server, pushing them back and resetting the point.
Definition
A lob return is a service reception where the returner executes a high-arcing lob over the server's head, pushing the server backward and resetting the point to a baseline exchange. Lob returns are tactical tools for returners facing aggressive servers who expect pace and positioning up the court. This return style disrupts server expectations and forces them to reset positioning. Lob returns carry moderate error risk because executing a high lob with sufficient depth and clearance requires excellent timing and touch. In professional padel, lob returns are used strategically—primarily against aggressive servers or when returners want to disrupt server rhythm.
Origin: Fundamental return tactic; terminology evolved from tennis adapted to padel.
