Brief break (typically 90 seconds) between games where players switch sides and rest.
Definition
A changeover is the brief authorized break between games when players switch court sides and can rest, drink, and receive coaching advice. Changeоvers typically last 90 seconds in professional padel and are strictly timed by the chair umpire. During changeоvers, players may sit, consult with coaches, hydrate, and adjust equipment. Coaches can provide tactical advice during changeоvers without penalty (unlike during play). Upon completion of the changeover time, players must be ready to play; exceeding the 90-second window results in a time violation. Changeоvers occur after every game (e.g., after games 1, 2, 3, etc.) and don't occur at the end of sets (players switch sides and go directly to the next game). In some tournaments, extended breaks occur at set changes (2-3 minutes). Changeоvers are crucial mental breaks; players can manage fatigue, strategize, and reset emotionally.
