Body Serving

What is a Body Serving in padel?

Serve directed at opponent's body (torso/chest zone); limiting return angles.

Definition

Body serving targets the opponent's torso and chest, limiting return angles and time to react. A body serve is harder to attack than serves to the wide corners—returners must step back or be jammed. Body serves also disrupt return rhythm; they're intimate and uncomfortable. Best executed on first serves (harder body serves are more effective) or second serves when returner expects width. Body serves are risky if not well-placed (result in double-faults or easy returns). Strong players with good body-serve placement have significant serving advantages.

Origin: Serve-placement strategy; adapted from tennis.

When to use it

On key points or when returner is standing wide.

Common questions

Is body serving effective?

Very—returners struggle with accuracy against body serves.

When shouldn't I body serve?

If returner is very close to the net or your serve is weak; it's a confidence-dependent shot.
