The Sky Master
Lob-first strategists who view the sky as their ally. They build points around lob placement and timing.
Become a lob lord by developing incredible lob consistency, depth, and placement. Practice lobs from baseline and mid-court. Develop both defensive (rally-resetting) and offensive (finishing) lobs. Work on lob depth control so opponents can't smash all lobs. Time lobs strategically to disrupt opponent rhythm. Coordinate with smash-partner to capitalize on overheads from your lobs. Study lob-masters for placement and tactical timing. Your mentality is: lob is primary weapon, everything else is secondary. Partner with smashers; your lobs set them up for overhead finishes. Build mental discipline; lob when strategic, not constantly.
Attack lob lords with serve-and-volley and aggressive net play. Shorten the court so lobs are less effective. Smash overheads decisively when lobs come up. Develop reliable overhead so you're not intimidated by lobs. Use aggressive baselines to prevent them from establishing lob patterns. Stay low at net so they're forced to lob over you; make them uncomfortable. Attack aggressively early before they establish rhythm.
Best partner: the smash monster
Tough matchup: the net rusher
How deep should my lobs be?
Aim for baseline or 2-3 feet inside. Deep lobs are harder to smash; shallow ones invite aggression. Vary depth to keep opponents guessing.
When should a lob lord stop lobbing?
When opponents are crushing overheads or when the court is shortened significantly. Adjust to baseline play when lobs stop working.
